The Office of VP-Research is pleased to announce a ‘Call for Applications’ for the Hampton Fund Research Grant.

Eligibility:

Full-time Assistant Professors or those of higher rank who are working in SSHRC-fundable disciplines, including the Visual and Performing Arts. In addition, though SSHRC has chosen to not fund health-related research, the Hampton Fund will continue to accept applications by social scientists and humanities from health related research areas that were previously fundable through SSHRC.

Award Amounts:

Individual Projects:  $10,000 - $25,000

Interdisciplinary Projects: $10,000- $40,000

Those considering submitting an application should be aware that the guidelines for the Hampton Fund emphasize that it should primarily fund the work of more junior scholars or more senior scholars who are seeking to change research areas in a significant way.

The guidelines emphasize support for the funding of interdisciplinary research. However, the Adjudication Committee will need evidence that proposals submitted as interdisciplinary involve two or more distinctive disciplines AND have interdisciplinary perspectives. It will not accept as interdisciplinary, proposals from persons from the same disciplinary background who are part of different departments or programs at UBC, unless there is clear evidence of an interdisciplinary focus to the proposed research, and that the focus directly addresses issues of inter-disciplinarity that go beyond being multidisciplinary.
