COMMUNITY OF SCIENCE

Community of Science is the leading global resource for hard-to-find information critical to scientific research and other projects across all disciplines.

UBC's subscription to COS provides researchers in all disciplines (including the social sciences and humanities) with online access to an international network of 500,000 peers at 1,600 institutions in more than 125 countries.

Using COS, researchers can search an enormous database of global funding opportunities, identify experts and collaborators worldwide, and promote their own research.

Accessing Community of Science

Through UBC's subscription to COS, on-campus users who are logged into the UBC network will be automatically redirected to the funding database and other features.

To access COS from off campus, you must log into a personal ‘COS Workbench’ account in order to access the COS database. To establish your free 'COS Workbench' account:

  1. Go to www.cos.com and click "Register FREE" on the left side of the page under the COS logo, then click "Join."
  2. Fill in all information fields marked with a red asterisk and click "Create my Account."
  3. Write down your username and password so that you remember it. Or, check the "save my login" box when you log in so that your computer remembers your login credentials each time you visit COS. Do not check this box if you are using a public or shared computer. If you use multiple computers or browsers, you'll need to save your Username and Password for each of them.
